Shining Stars.
크리스마스 연휴 모습.
첫번째, 붐비는 연휴 전 날 식료품 가게 앞 주차장에서 머리를 박박 민 백인 할머니가 큰소리로 말하면서 지나가고, 이제 곧 진입한 동양인 아저씨는 보행자에게 피해가 갈까 봐 테슬라에서 내리지 못하고 운전대를 잡고 기다린다. 그런데 큰 소리로 독백을 지르는 할머니, “누군지 모르지만 자기 옆차가 문콕 할 까봐 내리지도 않고 기다리는구나. 야, 나도 테슬라 타고 싶네.” 운전자 들으라고 큰 소리로 말하는, 종종 뉴스에서 들음 직 한 피해의식에 사로잡힌 미 서부 백인 모습이다. 암 투병중인 절박함, 동양인에게 이렇게 저렇게 지쳤을 법 한, 피해의식에서 헤어나지 못하고 친절함과 여유를 잃어버린 마음, 주변에서 쉽게 위로받지 못했던 듯 했다.
두번째, 제한속도 40에서 35로 달리며 살짝 지그재그로 가는 프리우스가 있었다. 술에 취했나 싶었는데, 알고 보니 도로에 움푹 패인 곳 들을 피해가면서 천천히 운전하고 있었고, 뒷면에서 말해주는 운전자 상태는 환경을 보호하고 싶은 서부사람의 정서, 왼쪽엔 아이러브 스테이츠 스티커, 가운데는 베테랑 스티커, 덴트가 꽤 있는 차로 보아 수리에 비용을 아껴야 하는 검소함 등이었다. 그 뒤로 추월하거나 위협하지 않고 조용히 따라가는 동양인 아저씨 운전자가 있었다. 두 아저씨들이 계속 이렇게 여유를 갖고 살아갔으면 좋겠고, 이런 모습을 보고 다른 사람들도 전도 되었으면 좋겠다고 생각했다. 필립보서 2장 말씀같이 믿음이 있는 사람이라면 빛나는 별 같은 사람이라면 더 좋겠다고..
First look. The day before a crowded holiday, in the parking lot in front of a grocery store, an old white woman with a shaved head is talking loudly as she passes by, and an Asian man who is about to enter is unable to get out of his Tesla for fear of disturbing pedestrians and waits behind the wheel. However, the old woman monologues loudly, “I don’t know who it is, but someone’s waiting without even getting out because he’s afraid the car next to him will nick. Well, Well, I want to drive a nice Tesla too.” She is a white in the West who is obsessed with the victim mentality you often hear on the news, shouting loudly for drivers to listen. The desperation of fighting cancer, the inability to escape from the victim mentality that must have suffered in one way or another, the loss of kindness and composure, and the lack of comfort from those around her.
Second look. There was a Prius driver who drives 40 to 35 mi/h and shakes left and right. I thought he was under the influence, but it turned out that he was driving slowly while avoiding potholes in the road, and the driver's history being told on the rear of the car was the sentiment of a Westerner who wants to save energy and protect the earth, sticker on the left side said I Love America, another one in the middle, was a veteran who went to war for the states, and was frugal, seemingly unable to repair his car. After that, there was an Asian driver who quietly followed without passing or threatening by honk.
I prayed, God bless these two guys and help them to be shining stars in the sky among the crooked generation like I saw from Philippians 2:15-16. “You will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life” - After describing Jesus’ descent into our fallen world (Philippians 2:5-8), the apostle Paul gives believers in Christ a calling. (2:12-16).
